I have a question concerning the firmware upgrade best practice.
Every firmware upgrade could bring new capabilities on our switchs (new features, new protocols, new version of protocols, the way devices acts , bug corrections...) right?
But, when you have multiple devices interconnected, maybe it'll be best for every devices to 'exchange' on the same basis (protocols versions)?
Is there a relationship between versions of different firmware on different platforms? (meaning: for VSP7200 in v 6.1.1.0 it's best to have your ERS4900 in 7.5.0.2) And if there is a prefered relation between them, is it based on the version number? ( meaning: for VSP7200 in v 6.1.1.0 it's best to have your ERS4900 in 6.1.1.0)
I believe the last firmware for VSP 72xx is VOSS7200.8.6.0.1, for ERS 49xx it's ers4900_791027 and for ERS 3600 it's 3600_653017 ?
Many thanks for your time.

There is no relationship between VSP and ERS code streams. They are different product families running different code, that happen to have different numbering conventions.
But regardless of the device family Extreme Networks highly recommends that you are running current and supported releases for all your devices. Extreme validates the solution with the assumptions customers are running the most current release for your switches.
As per our software support policy Extreme only supports the the two most current versions. Newest version (X) minus two (-2). As VOSS 8.8 just got released this means that support for VOSS 8.5 is no longer available.
Staying current not only benefits you. But it assist GTAC because they don't have to troubleshoot or research if your issue is an existing issue that was patched X years ago.
As of the time of this post ERS4900/5900 is at BOSS v7.9.
VSP/VOSS/FabricEngine is at v8.8.
