Summary
Switch/routers running the affected SLX-OS versions and configured for DHCP IP Helper will trigger a condition where RX buffer exhaustion is seen with DHCP relay configuration, which will cause a network outage. This issue is applicable only to DHCP Relay agent use case.
Example of DHCP IP Helper configuration:
interface Ve 10
ip directed-broadcast
ip address 10.10.10.1/24
ip dhcp relay address 10.10.20.1
ip dhcp relay address 10.10.30.1
Background
RX buffers were not freed up properly while handling the DHCP broadcast packets at HSLAGT IPHELPER context.
Impact
Loss of packets to the control plane affects protocols resulting in a network outage.
Products Affected
All SLX-OS product platforms
Software Affected
SLX-OS 20.5.3, SLX-OS 20.5.3a, SLX-OS 20.5.3b, SLX-os 20.6.1, SLX-OS 20.6.1a, SLX-OS 20.6.1b, SLX-OS 20.6.2, SLX-OS 20.6.2a Releases
Symptoms
Protocols failing to stay up will be service impacting.
Workaround
Once the switch/router is in this state, the only way to recover is to reload and immediately upgrade to a version that includes a fix to prevent it from reoccurring.
Solution
Upgrade the SLX-OS version to either SLX-OS 20.5.3c, SLX-OS 20.6.1c, SLX-OS 20.6.2b, or SLX-OS 20.6.3 (when it is available).
