Differences between HMOL Classic and HMNG

Hi,

We currently use HiveManager Online Classic to provide WiFi for 3 of our 4 sites. We will be deploying Aerohive also on the 4th site, which is by far the biggest.

I am wondering whether we should go with NG or Classic?

If we go with NG we would move the other sites to NG as well on a later date.

Is there any official statement from Aerohive what their plans are with Classic? How long will they develop both platforms?

Is there ant official information on features that are missing from NG?

Are you guys still deploying Classic for new installations?

Thanks!

Jakub

Hi Jakub, the main difference between Classic and NG is that NG is cloud based. Classic is still available for deployment, and is still supported fully, but all new features are going to be in NG from now on. Eventually NG will be the only supported platform, but they have not released any end of life date for Classic, so this is still a while down the road. The closest we have to official documentation on NG features (not missing features I'm afraid, but features in general) would be here- https://www.aerohive.com/technology/cloud-inspired/. You can also sign up for a free trail of NG at cloud.aerohive.com> Register that will last for 30 days. If you want to keep using NG at the end of that, we would just need to apply an entitlement key to that instance, so you would be able to keep anything you built during your trail.

We typically don't split keys, but you should have a 30 day trial that would allow you to add APs without a key. If you need to test beyond that, email me at communityhelp@aerohive.com and I can get you a temporary key for 30 more days.

OK, That sounds quite handy. But now I have one more question.

I currently have 9 licenses AP's on my site, but we can easily work with 8, actually it looks like 9 is too much and we are getting some interference. I would like to test NG with that one AP I don't need, but the entitlement keys we have are for multiple devices. one key for 3 APs and one key for 6. Is it possible to split them so that I have an entitlement key for 1 device so that I can use it for NG?

Hi Jakub, that would be an entitlement key for your APs, otherwise it will lock you to the Monitor page once your trail is up and you wouldn't be able to make new configuration or manage your devices.

Thanks Sam.

I have an additional question. I made a trial NG account, you say that to make it permanent I will have to add an entitlement key. Would that be an Entitlement Key for AP or is there a separate one for HM NG?

Thanks,

Jakub
