Here's a guide from 2016 that may answer some of your questions. Brian is correct, there is no simple way to migrate from one instance to the other, although it is worth the effort IMHO.
There is no migration path that is fluid and simple. The legacy HM platform backups do not import (outside of topology maps) into the new HM platform. The underlying architecture of the new HM is vastly different which currently inhibits this ability.
