Should / can you use aerohive access points at home and...

I was looking at improving our home network, as I am currently using the virgin super hub 2?. I have a few questions. I've looked around and saw ubiquiti... Gosh that's expensive! I saw aerohive and thought.. hmm... Maybe!

?

1. Should / can you use aerohive access points at home.

?

2?. Is there any basic setup examples using 2 access point on a budget. One upstairs, one downstairs. I'm fine with used AP's, but what about switches, routers. E.t.c.

?

3. If I choose aerohive,? would there be any tips/instructions for a basic setup... Using the free version of hivemanager.

?

Sorry for the long list, but I'm fairly new to networking and especially to aerohive.

?

Thanks in advance,

Max.?

Hi Max, you can absolutely use Aerohive APs at home. The free version of HiveManager (Connect) is designed for home use or small businesses. As long as you can plug the APs in to a router provided by your internet provider, you wouldn't need any extra equipment.

As for basic setup, we have plenty of guides to help you get going:

This guide will tell you how to register for Connect if you haven't already- https://thehivecommunity.aerohive.com/s/article/Registering-for-HiveManager-Connect

This guide tells you how to add an AP to the HiveManager- https://thehivecommunity.aerohive.com/s/article/Adding-and-Removing-Devices-in-HiveManager

  • And this one tells you how to troubleshooting things if it doesn't connect right away- https://thehivecommunity.aerohive.com/s/article/CAPWAP-Guide-for-HiveManager-NG

Finally, this guide will show you how to build a basic SSID to connect to, where everyone has the same password to connect to the network- https://thehivecommunity.aerohive.com/s/article/PSK-SSID-How-To-NG

Beyond that we have plenty of other guides if you're looking to do more advanced things. Also you've already found the community, so you know where you can post any questions you have along the way to get free support for Aerohive equipment any time you need it!
