Summary:  To support corporate social responsibility and reduce site waste, Extreme Networks will no longer ship console cables with wired switches.

 

Background: Because bundled console cables were often unused or duplicative, Extreme Networks will no longer include them with wired switch shipments. However, compatible console cables remain available for purchase. 

 

Products Affected:  The following Extreme Networks wired switches no longer ship with a console cable:

5320 Series

5420 Series

5520 Series

5720 Series

7520 Series

7720 Series

VSP 4900

VSP 7400

X435 Series

X695 Series

 

Solution: 

Supported console cables for Extreme Networks wired switches include:

CONSOLE CABLENOTE
XN-RJ45-DB9-CONSOLE-CBL 
XN-RJ45-USBA-CONSOLE-CBLCable may require a FTDI software driver on some operating systems
XN-RJ45-USBC-CONSOLE-CBL

Cable may require a FTDI software driver on some operating systems

This is the way. I’m sure many customers have the same bin as we do, filled with hundreds of unopened and unused cables — a sad and wasteful situation.

Agreed. It always felt wasteful to open the box and just throw things away. I would encourage doing this with the ISW's as well. They're a different cable but maybe just including documentation of what cable is compatible is enough. I hope other vendors follow suit as well.
