Summary
Extreme Networks has identified an issue in specific versions of ExtremeXOS/Switch Engine software where the use of SNMP triggers excessive system logging. This high volume of log data can be taxing on the system’s non-volatile memory. As a result, the impacted software versions are being removed from the Extreme Portal. Affected users must install a specific Xmod to mitigate the issue as detailed in the Solution section below
Products Affected
These ExtremeXOS/Switch Engine hardware products are at risk when running affected software versions:
* Note: If running these platforms with VOSS/Fabric Engine, no action is required as the VOSS/Fabric Engine Operating System is not impacted

Solution
Immediate Mitigation: Xmod Installation
To immediately stop excessive logging to non-volatile memory and prevent potential boot failures, customers and partners must install the summit_arm-netsnmplogging.xmod XMOD.
Download: summit_arm-netsnmplogging.xmod is found in the following product download pages:
- Installation: Reference How To: Install XMOD Files on Switch Engine (EXOS)
- System Impact: Installation is non-disruptive. XMOD becomes active immediately and will not trigger a system reboot.
- Scheduling: While non-disruptive, it is recommended to perform the installation during a scheduled maintenance window as a best practice.
Note: If the XMOD fails to install on any system, do not attempt a manual reboot. Contact Extreme GTAC immediately for guidance on next steps.
Once the XMOD is active and the system is stabilized no further action is necessary.
As an optional final step, Extreme Networks recommends transitioning to a recommended software release per the link below.
