Summary
The VOSS/Fabric Engine 8.10.6.0 and 9.0.5.0 releases are being removed from the Extreme Networks Portal due to a configuration interaction issue identified in certain topologies. This issue leads to loss of switch management access and response after upgrading to either VOSS/Fabric Engine 8.10.6.0 or 9.0.5.0 in affected deployments
Background
After upgrading to VOSS / Fabric engine release 8.10.6.0 or 9.0.5.0, certain SPB multi-area configurations and their interactions result in a loss of access and response to switch management IP addresses
Impact
SPB Multi-Area deployments with Dynamic Nickname Server configured on Multi-Area Boundary nodes (where the Boundary nodes are NOT a vIST pair) are impacted.
- The user will experience loss of management access and ping response to the switch management IP’s (CLIP, Mgmt. VLAN) after upgrading.
- Applications hosted on the VSP/Fabric Engine switch such as DHCP will not function correctly.
- Out-of-band management is not impacted.
Deployments where the Multi-Area Boundary nodes are configured as a vIST pair are not impacted by this interaction

Symptoms
- The user will experience loss of management access and ping response to the switch management IP’s (CLIP, Mgmt. VLAN) after upgrading.
- Applications hosted on the VSP/Fabric Engine switch such as DHCP will not function correctly.
- Out-of-band management is not impacted
Workaround
Reverting to an earlier release or upgrading to 9.1.x will resolve this issue.
If feasible, adding vIST between boundary nodes that have nickname servers will avoid the interaction
Solution
This issue can be avoided with deployment of the following releases in place of the affected versions:
- VOSS / Fabric Engine 9.1.0.0 or later code
- VOSS / Fabric Engine 8.10.6.1 (when available)
- VOSS / Fabric Engine 9.0.5.1 (when available)
