Access point license count in Netsight

Access point license count in Netsight

Hi,

We are deploying many sites for one of our customer and we want to add access point (controlled by a V2110) to netsight console for monitoring needs.

In the Netsight Licensing capacity, we have 25 devices and 250 Access point capacity.

When we add an access point to the console (ping_only profile) the device is identified as an access point (device icon with little wave) but when we hit the 26 devices count on the console, the system warn that the license capacity is over.

Controller is managed and discovered by the console and wireless manager so the access point list is known by Netsight.

Do we add the access point with the wrong method ?

Why access points added aren't count from access point license ?

thanks for your reply !

hi,

Already know that controlled AP doesn't support SNMP, that why we added them with profile.

my concern was about the license count for the access point. How it work ?

because my ap are recognize as AP (wireless icon) but count as device and that doesn't sound logic to me.

So how to have ap counted form ap license ?

If you add the AP this way it counts as an device.

Solution = don't add the AP, just add the controller

The controller manages all APs and is able to forward the events to XMC.

Just to add to this, Extreme Management Center uses a different communication method to sync the Wireless Controller and get information on the attached access points to monitor them though the "Wireless" tab in Extreme Management Center.

If you click the "Wireless" tab you should see the controllers and Access Points.

If not, the most likely cause is the SNMP profile assigned to the controllers doesn't have the correct login credentials. Part of the process is XMC will SSH into the controller and gather configurations though CLI.

Check out this article:

Then, make sure and collect device statistics for the controller:

to elaborate...

there is no SNMP agent running on the AP = you can't manage the AP from a NMS (ping is just reachabilty)

Just manage the controller and the controller wlll tx events to the NMS in case a AP went down, you are also able to query SNMP counters that way.
