How can we send an email from controller when an AP is down (or other problem) on controller Identifi Wireless?

We would like receive an email when some problem like an AP is down on controller occurs in our systems. This information appears on Network Status>>Local AP

Hi,

I fully agree with Doug that Netsight is a great tool but unfortunately not every customer has one.

For such a customer you'd use a simple and free SNMP to mail app.

Below a document that I've wrote that explain how to setup the trapreceiver app together with our controller infrastructure to get a mail in the event of an AP outage.

Hello, The email function would need to be done through our Netsight Software. We do not have direct access to an email server from the controller. If you have our Netsight Software, here is the procedure you need to follow which will allow you to receive email notifications from the Netsight Management Software. 1. Start NetSight Console. 2. Select Tools -> Alarm/Event -> Alarm Manager. In NetSight 5.0 there are predefined alarms created for AP in Service and AP out of Service. These alarms will trigger off messages from the controller (as seen in Wireless Manager) so we first need to make sure that the CLI credentials are properly setup as described below (from the Prerequisites for Wireless Manager): Ensure that Wireless Controllers are discovered using an SNMP v2c or SNMP v3 profile. This profile must also contain SSH CLI credentials for the Wireless Controller. Wireless Manager uses the Wireless Controller’s CLI to retrieve required device configuration data and to configure the managed Wireless Controllers. To configure the CLI credentials: From NetSight Console, access Tools > Authorization/Device Access > Profiles/Credentials tab. Select the CLI Credentials subtab. Select the CLI Credential being used by the Wireless Controller’s Profile, and Click Edit. Enter the username and password to be used in the credential. For Wireless Controllers, you must add the Login password to the Configuration field instead of the Login password field. The username and Configuration password specified here must match the username and Login password configured on the Wireless Controller Verify the SSH connection type is selected. Click OK. Use this CLI Credential in the Wireless Controller’s profile. 3. Since email notifications will be used you will want to setup the NetSight to send emails. Click on the Set Mail config button in the upper right of the Alarms Manager window. Enter in the Outgoing E-mail (SMTP) server, senders address and it a password is required enter the SMTP password. OK back out. 4. Select Each predefined alarm for the AP. Make sure that the Device groups field is blank. 5. Change to the Actions tab. 6. Place a check in the box for Email. 7. Click on Edit Email Lists. 8. Click New List button to create a new list to send the emails. You will first be asked to provide a name for the list. You will then be presented with a blank field to enter in the list of email addresses to send the notification. Apply and OK. 9. Select the email list that you just created. 10. Place a check in the Override Content box. 11. Click on Edit content. 12. Click on the Show Keywords link at the lower left. This will display a list of keywords that you can add to the email subject and the email body. A good one to have the these alarms is: $alarmSourceName This will provide the name of the AP in the notification. Otherwise just the serial number would be sent. Apply and close the Edit Action Overrides window. 13. Finally, change back to the Criteria tab. Near the center of this window will be a checkbox to Enable the Alarm. Place a check in the box when you are ready to enable and then Apply and OK the Alarm.
