XMC Alarm Action SNMP Trap instead of SNMP Inform

XMC Alarm Action SNMP Trap instead of SNMP Inform

Hey there

I would like to trigger an SNMP Trap if a certain Alarm in XMC rises, so i choose the “Trap Action” in the desired Alarm. So the problem now is, that XMC sends a SNMP Inform Message and not a Trap defined in the SNMP Standard. Is there a way to change that?

Thanks

Thomas

Thanks for clarifying for me Thomas, it looks like we can only send inform packets via v2 and v3 per this KB:https://extreme-networks--c.na101.visual.force.com/apex/KCS_QA_Internal?srKp=ka2&id=kA22T000000XZkv&...

I’m sorry I don’t have a better answer for you here. I might suggest reaching out to your sales engineer to file a feature request to see if we can get that changed in a later release. If you’re unsure who to reach out to for your sales engineer, please let me know and I’ll email that information directly to you.

Hi Sam

Thanks for your reply. i was able to test it. So i get to the point that only v1 sends a Trap message, v2 and v3 are sending Inform Packets. I took a print screen of the different packets captured by wireshark.

When you go to select the Action> Trap action, you should see a window pop up to configure the trap. If you have selected SNMP credential in the form of SNMP V3 inform, then you’ll see those SNMP inform packets. If you select SMNP v1 or v2, you should see trap messages. Here is a screen shot of the area I’m referring to:
