Hi all! I am new to Aerohive and ExxtremeCloud IQ and was wondering what the purpose of the Simulated device option is.

Hi there, welcome to the world of ExtremeCloud IQ! Simulated devices let you see what options are available for certain models, in case you’re considering which model to purchase. You can also add simulated devices to our interactive heat maps, to help plan out exactly what equipment you’ll need  for your location(s). It’s a way to get a feel for our devices before purchasing, so you can narrow down precisely what you need. Is that what you were looking for?

Yes, our WIPS (Wireless Intrusion Prevention System) will help you detect rouge devices. This page goes in to more detail about how to set up and use WIPS- https://docs.aerohive.com/330000/docs/help/english/ng/Content/gui/configuration/configuring-wireless...

Is there a way to find any rogue access points that may be connected to the network but not actually onboarded and configured in ExtremeCloud IQ?

Yes, that is exactly right. It will also not take any device licenses out of your pool of license, since it is not a real device.
