Hi
Trying to uplink two X695s, not stack, via QSFP with 100Gb. According to Extreme doc (https://extreme-networks.my.site.com/ExtrArticleDetail?an=000106266) ports 51 and 56 are 100Gb default and that ports 49, 50, 55, 60 can be 40G or 100G configured by port speed command.
When connecting the first switch on port 51 and the other on 55 (on the second switch 51 and 56 are already used) using the port speed to set to 100Gb, the link will not come up, the cables are spec'd correctly according to the website purchased from. If we set the partition on the first switch to 1x40Gb and set the speed on the second switch to 40Gb the link comes up fine.
First switch has Advanced Edge licence and the second has Core but as far as I can see there are no restrictions on bandwidth with the Edge licence? Any ideas gratefully received.
Thanks

The Edge vs. Core license doesn't limit bandwidth on ports, so it's not a license issue. The problem is that ports 49, 50, 55, and 60 on the X695 are dual-mode, which means that both ends need to agree on the same breakout/partition mode. If you set the speed to 100G, the link won't come up if one side is still logically partitioned or mismatched. That's why it works at 40G when both sides are lined up. To get 100G, you need to set both ends to 1x100G (not just speed 100G) and make sure the cable type matches the port's supported breakout mode. If you don't, the link will stay down.

Bringing up a true 100 Gb uplink between two X695s often comes down to the small details: matching EXOS versions, correct QSFP28 optics, and consistent port configuration on both sides. It’s easy to get stuck at 40 Gb if any piece doesn’t fully align. Having reliable tools and resources at hand really helps in setups like this — sometimes even simple utilities from sites like install.download can save time when validating your environment before deeper troubleshooting.

In the "Uplink between two X695 with 100Gb" thread on the Extreme Networks community, users discuss challenges in establishing a 100Gb link between two X695 switches via QSFP ports. One user reported success when configuring the first switch's port to 40Gb and the second switch's corresponding port to 40Gb, while a 100Gb configuration failed to establish a link. This suggests potential issues with port compatibility or configuration mismatches. Ensuring that both switches are running compatible firmware versions and that the QSFP modules and cables are correctly specified for 100Gb operation is crucial.
