Wireless controller :
Is it a valid test to load software on a c25 controller .pfe extension and assume that this software will perform the same on a 5210 controller with an .rue extension

We have a customer that now wants to run all new software releases on a test network, before moving to a live enviroment . Currently they have a 2 x 5210 controllers Live, they are wanting to purchase a smaller controller possible c25 ( maybe 2 as the main units are HA ) load software and we also have a specific .php file .

My immediate reaction to this would be that this is not a valid test , though to be honest I have only upgraded two of these units ( 5210 in the past )

I look forward to your comments

I have also raised this as a TAC case.

Yes, you'd do that to test the features.

But I'd advice to either buy a C35 (same price as C25) or if the customer has the infrastructure to deploy V2110s.

I will probably go for a C35 as suggested , the customer would not see a virtual machine as a like for like test ..

The firmware itself is the same although the actual image varies between hardware platforms.

The tests will have to take into account the difference in hardware capabilities, number of supported AP's/users etc.

Rod,

A C25 image will never work for a C5210 and vice versa.
