The 1-gigabit MGBIC will not function, though a 10-gigabit 10GBASE works fine in the same slot.

Cause
B5 hardware only supports 10g transceivers (10GBASE) within the two port slots labeled "

code:

10g

".

Solution/Workaround
Functions as Designed (FAD).

These B5 switches also contain two combo (5489) "

code:

SFP

" port slots for 1g MGBIC insertion.

Alternately, the C5-Series (C5K125-24, C5K125-24P2, C5K125-48, C5K125-48P2, C5K175-24) does support a dual 10g/1g SFP+ capability via two "

code:

SFP+

" port slots per switch.
