Cause
SecureStack C2 Release Notes and Installation Guides incorrectly imply that the MGBIC-02 (1000Mb twisted pair) has blanket support on all the SecureStack C2 products.

The MGBIC-02 is not supported for the C2G124-24, C2G124-48, or C2G124-48P. Their native gigabit 10/100/1000 RJ45 ports and four MGBIC ports are shared in an "either/or" arrangement (5489), so there is no point to using a MGBIC-02 to replace a native port, for the same connectivity.

The MGBIC-02 is conditionally supported for the C2G134-24P. Its native 10/100/1000 RJ21 ports and four MGBIC ports are shared in an "either/or" arrangement (5489) but are not of the same physical type, so the use of a MGBIC-02 could serve to provide RJ45 port connectivity. Here is the conditional element: Official MGBIC-02 support for the C2G134-24P is present with firmware 3.01.90 and higher. With older firmware, MGBIC-02 operation in a C2G134-24P is possible but not guaranteed.

The MGBIC-02 is supported for the C2G170-24. Its 24 MGBIC ports could benefit from the copper media capability of the MGBIC-02.

The MGBIC-02 is supported for the C2H124-48 and C2H124-48P. Their native 10/100 RJ45 ports and four MGBIC ports can be used simultaneously, so the use of a MGBIC-02 could serve to increase the useable copper port density.

Solution
Functions as Designed (FAD).
