4220 switches EAPS

Hi,

Probably more for Extreme Staff since I doubt anyone actually has one of these switches.

We have a customer (Well, several to be fair) running X440's with EAPS rings, some configured via the CLI injection functionality of XiQ.

The new 4220's are XiQ only, will the CLI injection from XiQ still work? I am assuming it's still a full XOS image without remote write access capability.

EAPS will not be supported on the 4220 series.

The 4220 will have a reduced CLI, but both XIQ (via supplemental CLI) and XIQ-SE (via Tasks/Scripting/Workflows) will be able to access the usual SwitchEngine/EXOS full CLI. With the exception of EAPS which will not be there even in the full CLI.

Can't you position 5320 for EAPS ?

Clients got 70K to cover 23 switches plus labour, and that's a 3-4k budget hop moving from a 4220 to a 5320, we are already struggling to keep inside budget.

Are you still planning on using EAPS for the rings then? Perhaps you should ask TAC if they are willing to support EAPS in those boxes. EAPS isn't even mentioned in the datasheet so I strongly doubt that. You may need to re-think the ring strategy.

Well I can't really now I guess. I do have upstream 5500 series switches, so I could do fabric with them, followed by fabric attach but I think there's a bump in the road that might affect that. Otherwise the X435 is still available, I've run EAPS across those in the past.

Or, I can wait until VOSS is available for the 4220's and do full fabric then at least in that portion of the network
