Port description-string XOS 15.4.3

Port description-string XOS 15.4.3

Just an idea - in 15.4.X, do you think it would be possible to some day get an update that allows spaces/colons/etc. in the port description string? VLAN descriptions already allow it, and port descriptions can have spaces in 15.5.X
I know, it's a minor thing, but it would really come in handy if you're using tools like "Observium" for monitoring.

Any reason to stick to 15.4?

The currently recommended versions are:
- 15.3.4.6 (X150/250e/350/450a/450e/650)
- 15.5.3.4 (X430/440/460/480/670/770, BD 8800/8900)
- 15.6.2.12 (X460-G2/670-G2)

Port Display String won't accept spaces or ", but it did accept all these characters...
* lab4.sw1.27 # conf port 1 display-string "port's_test\:&/"
* lab4.sw1.28 # sh ports description
Port Display String Description String
===== ==================== ==================================================
1 port's_test\:&/ this is a test : ; & / \
2

===== ==================== ==================================================
* lab4.sw1.29 #

Frank, I've just tried this in v15.7.1.4 (in the EXOS VM)
* lab4.sw1.8 # conf ports 1 description-string "this is a test : ; & / \ "

and here's the result:
* lab4.sw1.13 # sh ports description
Port Display String Description String
===== ==================== ==================================================
1 this is a test : ; & / \
2
3
4

===== ==================== ==================================================
* lab4.sw1.14 #

On a side note:The securestack family will allow thing slike $-, bu no spaces when configuring port alias's
-(su)->set port alias ge.1.47 port-alias-&,$
-(su)->show port alias ge.1.47
Port ge.1.47 port-alias-&,$@

If they are not avaialbe at this time the these items would be considered a C4 (or care request).
If this is something you wish for on any of the Extreme switches then I would recommend opening a ticket with the GTAC and requested this feature.

I also believe that you can request a feature request in case management section
follow the sites below
http://www.extremenetworks.com/
http://support.extremenetworks.com/
select my case management then select open a case

The request would be processed with feedback
The more the merrier
Thanks,
Jason

Yeah, I screwed up - I meant 15.3.X, not 15.4.3  I probably skipped a line when I read the configs and was so sure - and so wrong ...
