Should I power down entire stack to install VIM on master?

Should I power down entire stack to install VIM on master?

I have a stack of 5520's that I need to install a VIM into. If I install the VIM into the master should I power down the entire stack first if I don't want the master to change? Or would the master regain its' role as master automatically even if the other members were not shut down? I would normally install the VIM to backup or standby node to avoid this issue.

When you power down the master slot another slot will take over.

Once you inserted the VIM and powered up the old master slot it will become backup or standby, but no matter if it is master/backup or standby, the extra ports on the vim will be available to configure.
