There are 500 formal licenses for VX9000. Now we need to apply for 500 temporary licenses. Will the license become 1000 after the addition?

First, my apologies for an incorrect response. (At the time, I was thinking of the licensing structure of a different product)
The correct answer to this is that on a WiNG controller, there is only a single ‘slot’ for a license string (for each of the license types, e.g. AP, AAP). This means that if there is an existing permanent license string currently applied for a license type, and you then enter a second temporary license string for that same license type, it will overwrite the existing permanent license string.
With that said, there is still a way to have both permanent and temp licenses installed at the same time. Without going into the history of it, there are two different types of AP licenses that you likely have noticed: AAP and AP. The “AP’ type is deprecated now, but it can still be used and the WiNG code now TREATS the ‘AP’ license type as if it were an ‘AAP’ license.
With that said, you could have your 500 permanent licenses applied as the usual ‘AAP’ licenses and then have 500 temporary ‘AP’ license type created and then applied. So then in WiNG, you’d have 500 AAP licenses and 500 AP licenses. Since they would all be treated the same anyway, you have the same functionality as if you had 1000 AAP licenses...but the temp AP licenses will still expire at their expiration date.

With the VX9000, you can have multiple licenses strings applied. Some can be permanent and some can be temporary. So yes, when you add the 500 temp licenses to the existing 500 perm licenses, you would have a 1000 total. (until the temp licenses expired)

If you’re using ExtremeCloud IQ, yes the total number of licensed devices would go up to 1000 assuming all of the 500 formal licenses were still active. Once those expire, the number of licensed devices will return to 500.
