ML-2452-PTA3M3 and AP310e

The ML-2452-PTA3M3 antenna has three antenna ports and supports MIMO.
The AP310 has four (excluding BLE) antenna ports.

My question - on which ports of the AccessPoint should I connect the three connectors of the antenna and which antenna settings do I have to consider for the AccessPoint configuration?

I found another similar question - but without an answer: ExtremeWireless (WiNG)

Hi,The antenna guide in page 28 lists all the compatible antennas for AP7522 EMEA.For Patch antennas there is a (*) for ML-2452-PTA3M3-036 which has three(3) co

Hi,

I'd say the answer is none of them.

Here the datasheet of the AP which lists the compliant antennas for that AP model.

Hi Ronald,

Thank you for your previous guidance.

I fully understand that the official recommendation is to follow the antenna compatibility matrix and use only the antennas explicitly listed for the AP310e. The purpose of my question is not to challenge that recommendation, but rather to better understand the engineering rationale behind it. 【1-e8085c】

I noticed that the ML-2452-HPA6-01 is listed as supported for the AP360e and AP460e, but not for the AP310e. At the same time, the AP310e is an external-antenna platform with four RF ports, and the ML-2452-HPA6-01 is a four-feed dual-band antenna. 【1-e8085c】【2-181453】【3-370ccf】

My question is not whether this combination is officially supported.

Rather, I am interested in knowing whether there is a known technical reason why the AP310e should not be used with the ML-2452-HPA6-01.

For example:

• Is there a specific RF or MIMO design limitation?
• Is there any feed-mapping incompatibility?
• Is there any hardware constraint that would prevent proper operation?
• Or is the absence from the compatibility matrix simply the result of qualification scope and product validation priorities? 【1-e8085c】

One additional point that makes this question particularly interesting is that, here in Brazil, we are aware of several deployments that have been using AP310e access points together with ML-2452-HPA6-01 antennas for more than three years.

In these specific deployments, the primary goal is broad 2.4 GHz coverage rather than maximizing dual-band performance, advanced MIMO operation, or peak throughput. As far as we know, these installations have been operating normally in production environments without any obvious stability or connectivity issues.

This real-world experience is what led us to wonder whether there is an actual technical incompatibility between the AP310e and the ML-2452-HPA6-01, or whether the absence from the compatibility matrix is mainly related to product qualification and validation scope rather than a fundamental RF limitation.

In other words, from a purely engineering perspective, are you aware of any technical obstacle that would prevent an AP310e from operating correctly with a ML-2452-HPA6-01 antenna, particularly in deployments focused primarily on 2.4 GHz coverage?

I would greatly appreciate any insight you can share based on your experience.

Best regards,

Marcelo Rocha

At first sorry for the delay, I was unfortunately longer absent.
@Ronald: Thanks for the hint.

Then I ask differently - the AP7522 is compatible according to antenen guide. Where would I connect the antennas there?
