Summary
Attempting to onboard switches with pre-GA EXOS or Switch Engine versions 32.6.3.32-patch2-1, 32.6.3.32-patch2-2, or 31.7.3.10 using XIQ-SE and ZTP+, when pushing a configuration before upgrading the switch image version, the switch may crash causing lost connectivity to XIQ-SE.
Impact
Onboarding and pushing a config from XIQ-SE (which issues SNMP Sets) using the image versions above can cause the switch to crash due to a mismatched data type. Not all config pushes will cause this issue, but RADIUS Accounting being enabled will cause this crash.
Products Affected
ExtremeSwitching X440-G2, X450-G2, X460-G2, X465, X590, X620, X670-G2, X690, X695, X870, 5320, 5420, 5520, 5720, 7520, and 7720.
Does not occur with the X435, since it runs a 32-bit image.
No switches built before 2024 are impacted.
Software Affected
These EXOS and Switch Engine images are pre-GA and only used during manufacturing. No images on the Extreme Portal have this problem.
EXOS 31.7.3.10
Switch Engine 32.6.3.32-patch2-1
Switch Engine 32.6.3.32-patch2-2
XIQ-SE (not version specific)
Symptoms
EXOS crashes with RADIUS Accounting enabled (most common configuration trigger) when running these pre-GA images.
Solution
Within XIQ-SE, upgrade the switch image to a GA version before pushing any configuration. Setting the “Firmware Update” field to “Always” on the (sub)site level combined with marking a new image as a reference image by “Set as Reference Image” in the firmware tab will ensure the upgrade is done before any configuration pushes.
