I've spent a few months developing a few virtual AP device configurations (and all the policies, etc.) in XIQ. I'm finally almost ready to onboard the physical AP device(s), but have a question: When I onboard the physical device, does the virtual device go away, or will I end up with both the onboarded physical device and the virtual device?
Also, is there a way to exactly copy all the attributes of a virtual device into another one in one step, with just the necessity to change the name/ID? I'd like to keep my original virtual configurations as reference.
Does this make sense? Thanks... 🤔

Hello @gnar13,
Virtual APs will not be deleted or removed when importing real devices. You can test this by importing a real device (without actually connecting one).
When you create configurations you are actually creating objects which are stored in the main object container (Configure > Common Objects) and those can be used by any AP that supports these settings. If you delete an object from the Network Policy, you are simply removing it from said Network Policy and not completely deleting it since it still exists in the main object container.
You will have to build an AP template for the real APs and add the objects therein (but those should have been already configured so all you have to do is select and add them to the template)
I hope this helps,

Hello @gnar13 ,
The gist of it is the following:
The Network policy encompasses everything that has to do with your site, including SSIDs, security and AP templates
AP template encompasses everything that has to do with AP configurations, including Radio profiles
Radio profiles encompass everything that has to do with Radio settings.
When you configure anything in the Network Policy, those are stored in containers under Configure > Common objects. So let's say you'd like to delete an SSID from the Network Policy, this will only be removed from said policy but will still exist in it's container for reuse or configuration. Only when deleted from it's container will it be completely removed from XIQ.
Any default object cannot be modified so when configuring anything, create new objects based on the default one so that you may make changes as needed, namely AP templates and Radio profiles.
This is only a summary but I would recommend that you reach out to your account team for assistance on initial configuration or to GTAC for break/fix issues.
I hope this helps,

Hi Christoph_S,
If nothing else, you are patient! Your summary is very good (though containers are a different mindset from Fortran 😉). It's probably not obvious from my comments, but I actually worked through Network Policies, Radio Profiles, etc.; pretty much every applicable thing in the XIQ User Guide except the AP Template. So I'm studying pages 125 onward right now...
Best regards,
