5420M-24-4YE Switch - Multicast not working

Hello,

we recently purchased the POE++ Switch 5420M-24-4YE. Our application requires Multicast. We tried to set it up but it doesn't work. Can you help us walk through the steps.

This is what we have done so far:

Enabled IGMP Snooping

Enabled PIM

Thank you.

Which OS are you using? Fabric Engine or Switch Engine? In Fabric enable multicast for SPBM.

In Switch Engine (EXOS):

  • IGMPv2 is enabled by default.
  • IGMP Snooping is enabled by default

Remember that only one querier exists per LAN segment and it is the lowest IP in VLAN.

What are the results of show igmp vlan <your service VLAN> ? Do you see there your application?

PIM (SM/DM) is required only when you are going to provide multicast service for another broadcast domain than the IGMP source. If it is the case, please check the TTL (Time-To-Live) set by your application because sometimes applications (VLC is the example I know) sets this attribute by default to "1" which doesn't allow any multicast routing at all.

divram,

The information provided is too scarce to be able to help you.

Important information is:

  • topology diagram including type of switches and OS versions and client/receiver
  • Are you using SPBM? if so PIM has to be disabled

You can start here: https://extreme-networks.my.site.com/ExtrSearch#q=multicast&t=Knowledge&sort=relevancy&f:@sfdatacate...
